Jess observes that this side breathing may help open you up to a different way of being. “Someone once said to me, your front body represents ‘yes,’ your back body represents ‘no’ and your side body represents ‘maybe,’” she says. “And since your ribcage protects the heart, as you stretch the intercostal muscles, it’s like you’re looking out into the world with a different perspective.”
